Roscommon has an array of lakes and rivers that offer a variety of fishing opportunities. Set amidst unspoilt, peaceful landscapes, these locations are a haven for anglers. Strokestown and Tulsk lakelands – Series of 65 lakes in the east of the county with pike, perch and more. Boyle River – A network of lakes in Boyle, Elphin and Carrick on Shannon, with a diverse range of coarse angling, good stock and boats available locally.
The River Shannon is the main artery through the country and we know the Vikings arrived by river in Clonmacnoise in 842. Clonmacnoise is 90 minutes(one way) from Athlone by river and is the perfect way to approach this famous monastic site. The Lough Ree Cruise(approx 75 minutes) normally goes upstream to the Hodson Bay and returns.
Roscommon Racecourse attracts support from leading trainers and jockeys in Ireland in both flat and national hunt racing. Roscommon has attracted many horses over the years that have gone on to much greater things on the world stage and we are determined to see this trend continue.
The Golf Club is situated about 2km east of Strokestown and about 20km west of Longford, in the townland of Bumlin, along the N5 Dublin- Westport primary route.
Strokestown Park is a unique visitor attraction in Strokestown. Co Roscommon in The West of Ireland comprising of Strokestown Park House, a Georgian Palladian mansion preserved with its original furnishings and fabrics, which can be seen daily by guided tour. The House was the family home of the Packenham Mahon family and is built on the site of the 16th century castle, home of The O Conor Roe Gaelic Chieftains.
Arigna Mining Experience center was developed to preserve the energy heritage of the Arigna Valley and to ensure that Arigna maintains its link with Energy themes: Past, Present & Future.
The course has a wonderful mix of scenery with views taking in the Arigna and Curlieu Mountains while the Boyle River meanders by the eight and twelfth tees as it flows through Drumharlow Lake. There are some spectacular holes, not least the eight where the tee-box is surrounded by water, requiring a carry-over.
Tullyboy Farm is a family run real working visitor farm in a beautiful setting around a Georgian farmhouse and buildings with mature trees and lake views on the Roscommon and Leitrim border between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon.
